No, I haven't stopped reading, I just haven't blogged about it lately. So here's where I left off...
• Even though Abraham gets presumptuous and acts on his own and has a kid with someone besides Sarah, God still blesses the outcome. He puts his blessing on Ishmael and then still gives Abraham the promised son through Sarah. God's grace is amazing!
• Abraham's intercession for Sodom and Gomorrah is a picture of God's mercy. Even though God knows there isn't one righteous person in the cities, he still says if there's just one he would spare them.
• Every time God calls Abraham his answer is the same, "Here I am!" That wasn't a positional answer, as if God didn't know where Abraham was. It was an answer of surrender.
• Both Isaac and later his son Jacob have a specific time when their relationship with God changes...when God becomes THEIR God and not just the God of their father before them. Parents, our kids sooner or later have to make that same shift.
• Esau sells his birthright for a bowl of lentil soup. Filet Mignon maybe, but not lentil soup!
• Jacob was one deceitful little dude!

Hey Dave, I've been away from your blog for awhile and saw you were writing about your readings from Genesis and I thought about something else I had read. There's this guy who's a non-practicing Jew and read through the entire Bible (OT for him), and blogged about it. It's irreverent at times, but honest all the time. Very interesting stuff if you wanted to read it...here's the link: http://www.slate.com/id/2141050/. Nick
