One of the most awesome community outreaches that we have done over the last several years (5, I think) has been the Hope Packs outreach to C.C. Spaulding Elementary School in Durham. Every year 300 students fill the ranks at Spaulding and they all come from under-resourced homes. Without our help, most of these students would not be able to purchase the needed supplies for the beginning of their school year. But every year NHC'ers come together and bring in the needed supplies to fill brand new backpacks for each and every student. This year is no exception.
So, make sure to hit the back-to-school sales this weekend and bring your Hope Pack supplies to church on Sunday. And just in case you missed getting a list of needed supplies, here's what we need:
600 three-ring binders
1500 pocket folders
600 packs of wide-ruled notebook paper
600 spiral notebooks
300 packs of pencils
150 packs of pens
300 packs of markers
300 packs of crayons (24 count)
300 packs of colored pencils
300 rulers
300 pencil boxes (hard shell)
300 pair scissors
300 glue sticks
300 bottles white school glue
