A few thoughts on the weekend at NHC...
• Great Sunday, especially for the second weekend of August!
• This weekend in Pt. 2 of Beautiful we tackled the character issue. Last weekend all I wanted to do was just encourage the ladies, but this weekend we jumped into the deep end of the pool. I know it was hard to hear, but sometimes the thing that keeps others from seeing a woman's true beauty is the character issues that she fails to deal with.
• BUT...Proverbs 31:10,11 should still be very encouraging to every woman!! Solomon reiterates what we said last weekend - true beauty isn't an external thing depending on appearance, your kids, your house or your relationships. True beauty is an inner thing. It flows out of a Godly character.
• Jon and the band ROCKED the worship. Loved the new song - Glory to God. That one should be an NHC fave pretty quickly.
• And the "chick" song, Whatever It Is, seemed to hit a chord with the ladies.
• While I'm on the music/band subject, we had a visit yesterday from a local musician/concert promoter. He said he had visited several churches in the area and that our band is head and shoulders above anything other local churches are doing. Now, I realize that we're not in competition with other churches, but it's nice to hear that from someone who knows music. We consider our music to be a very important part of what we do to reach unchurched people, so it helps to hear positive encouragement from someone who knows what he's talking about.
• I talked a lot about my wife yesterday and she wasn't even in church to hear it. Actually, she injured her knee over the weekend and was laid up for a couple of days, but I plan to get her a CD so she can hear all the nice things I said about her. I need the additional brownie points!
• Actually I talked about her so much because she's one of the godliest women I know.
• Love the new look of our NHC KID'S environments! The lobby sure looks a lot different without the old Uhambo check-in desk, but the check-in kiosks are way cool and they allow our check-in workers to get more up close and personal with kids and parents. Plus kids can be checked in much faster. And there's still more redesign going on upstairs to create more space for our G-R-O-W-I-N-G KID'S ministry. Be sure to check it out if you haven't yet.
• Heading out this week for a very special and targeted gathering of senior pastors, youth pastors and children's pastors. Our team will be meeting with teams from 30 other churches to learn more about how to integrate our kids and youth ministries into the overall ministry of the church. Should be exciting stuff, so pray that we'll be open to all God wants to teach us.
• Ladies, next weekend we wrap up the Beautiful series with Moving Past Your Past. Trust me, THIS WILL BE A GREAT SUNDAY TO INVITE A FRIEND TO NHC!!

See, I knew there was a method to the madness! Thanks!

The set was meant to last us for the entire summer, no matter what the series was. Summer is a time when most of our staff is taking vacation like everybody else does. So we try to scale back some things to allow for staff absences and to give them a breather. Look for a new set design for the fall kick-off series in September.

Hi, Dave! Just out of curiosity, with all of the awesome sets we've had in the past, why does the Beautiful women's series have leftover rocks? As I say that, I realize that it sounds like a complaint, and it really is not meant to be. I really am just curious. I know there is a method to the madness of everything NHC does, and I am wondering what it is!!!
