Whew! Interesting day at NHC yesterday. I taught on putting God first in our finances which always leads to some tense feelings in the air. So, having said that, here are some thoughts on the weekend...
• Halloween weekend+swine flu+stewardship campaign = Down attendance! I was reminded that we're in this for the long haul and it won't be easy.
• The band did another awesome job leading us in worship! I was really amazed at something this weekend. The songs in the worship set were picked weeks ago, yet the way they seamlessly fit with what I was teaching was incredible. Must've been a God-thing!
• Today's subject is one of my favorite things to talk about. Why? Because it's something Susan and I have LIVED ever since we got our first jobs and our first paychecks. And like I said yesterday, we've seen our share of financial downturns, but in the midst of the drought God spoke up and God showed up because we put him first.
• Some people get mad when we teach on money. There's a reason. Let me explain it this way: There are also some people who get mad when we teach on adultery. Who? The people committing adultery! It's the same deal with money. The people who get mad are those who aren't putting God first.
• And no matter how hard you try to justify not putting God first, the words of Jesus are pretty hard to argue with - "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." Matthew 6:21
• Really enjoyed the interview with Wes and Nina Lloyd during the message. I had heard their story a while back and just felt it was so compelling that everyone needed to hear it. What a great example of God's faithfulness during a time of financial downturn! If you missed the weekend you don't want to miss this story. You can watch the video here. (It'll be up midweek.)
• Only three weeks to go until we make our commitments to Unstoppable! Have you prayed about what God wants you to do?
• Next week we're going to talk about another big question - How do I know what God wants me to do? Don't miss it!
