This weekend we kicked off a new series called, Religiously Transmitted Diseases. Here are some random thoughts on the weekend...
• Good to be back after the holidays. I love the Christmas/New Years holidays, but I'm ready to get back to normal. So it felt good preach about something besides Christmas.
• We talked about one of the biggest RTD's in church-world today - "God will never give you more than you can handle." I don't know how many times I've heard some well-meaning Christian say, "Well, I know you have a really big, scary problem facing you right now, but don't worry because God will never give you more than you can handle." Just so you know, the Bible doesn't say that ANYWHERE!
• In fact, Paul was very clear on this. God allowed way more than he could handle so he would quit depending on his own ability and start depending totally upon God's ability.
• Sometimes the only way God can get us to fully rely on him is to allow us to get into a position where the wheels come off.
• And when the wheels come off, LISTEN TO GOD! "Don't be afraid or discouraged...the battle is not yours, but God's!" You can't and won't determine the outcome of that problem anyway, so let God do what he wants to do in your life.
• I can't judge God based upon my view of my circumstances. My view is always partial and usually faulty. If I want to get a perspective on God's character I need to look at one thing and one thing only - THE CROSS. That's where I fully see who God is and what his character is like.
• On another note, loved the new stage set! The big lanterns really looked cool, and having the center screen at stage level really produced some great looking effects.
• And Jon did an awesome job of leading us in worship in spite of a bad sore throat.
• Watching people pray for each other during the prayer time at the end of the message was an awesome thing to see. I love it when we ARE the church and we're not just coming to church.
• Looking forward to next weekend already! What's the next RTD? "There are many ways to God." Should be fun, so make sure to be here and bring a couple of dozen friends!

Wow...you hit it out of the park on Sunday. I love the Jehoshephat story...I love that God says, "hey, I've got this.." but He expects us to show up and do what we can in the natural. Dave, thank you for being our Pastor and thank you for the truth you so regularly share with us! You Rock!
