Why is the church afraid to talk about the subject of miracles? I mean, come on...the church should corner the market on talking about the miracle working power of a supernatural God!
And no, I'm not talking about TV preacher stuff where someone gets slapped on the forehead and knocked over by some guy with really bad hair and an even worse suit.
I'm talking about the real deal. You know the kind of stuff that's in the Bible...book of Acts kind of stuff!
Like 3000 people repenting of their sins and being baptized in one day...
Like the church exploding...
Like the Gospel being preached to the known world without the internet, Twitter or iPhones...
That's miracle territory. But why is it we believe it happened THEN, but we don't believe it can happen NOW? After all, God hasn't changed - Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8 So, that's not the issue.
That means the problem must be us. Instead of praying for, working for, inviting for and believing God for miraculous life change, we want our "nice" church services. Rather than times of repentance and salvation we just want things to make us feel good about ourselves. Rather than being led by the Spirit we're more and more being led by our selfish desires.
Maybe...just maybe God wants to do something else. Maybe God doesn't want his church to be "nice." Maybe God doesn't want us to be "normal." Maybe God wants us to be more focused on hearing from him...being led by his Spirit...zeroing in on his heart...being consumed by the desires that consume his heart. Maybe if we did that we would see a miraculous move of God.
I don't know about anyone else, but that's what I want to see. I want to see God do something that only he can take credit for. I want to see a miracle!
This weekend at New Horizon we're going to unpack another one of the miracles of Jesus. I'm really pumped about this message because it's focused on one of the biggest keys to seeing the miracle working power of Jesus in our own lives.
So, I'm challenging you to get here Sunday...get someone else here with you...and let's see what God will do!
