I’m still trying to process what happened this weekend at NHC. Soooo many people coming to Christ. I hope you realize that’s not something that happens in many churches. I’ve grown up in church. Except for a few years where I rebelled and ran away from God about as hard and fast as I could run, I’ve always been around church. I’ve never experienced anything like what we saw this weekend. It wasn’t just another Easter, it was a move of God!
And there’s so many things I could point to as contributing factors – amazing volunteers, leaders who are all-in, 318 people who prayed for our Easter services over the last couple of weeks, everyone who invited someone to Easter services and probably some other things I’m just not thinking about yet. But I want to take up a little blog space today to talk about one factor that is huge in my mind right now – the NHC staff.
Years ago I heard John Maxwell say something that I believe is very true: Your success will be directly influenced by the people you gather around you. Today I’m more convinced of the truth of that axiom than ever. Show me a great leader and I’ll show you a great team surrounding that leader who has the leader’s back. Moses had Aaron and Hur to hold up his hands and Joshua to fight the battle. David had a group of mighty men who were willing to fight the really hard fights. Moses and David tend to get all the credit, but they couldn’t have been the leaders they were without the people who surrounded them.
I know a little bit about what that feels like. Not that I’m in the category of Moses or David, but I have a team that surrounds me that are mighty men and women of God. I know they believe in me, love me, respect me and honor my calling to lead this church. Don’t get me wrong. They’re not a bunch of “yes people.” They shoot straight with me and tell me when I’m headed down the wrong trail. And I listen to them when they do because I know they want the best for me and our church. Together, we’re a team.
So, here’s what I believe: I believe one of the reasons hell got depopulated by 128 people this weekend is because of this team. Jamie, Leah, Adam, Cathy, Dougie, Rob, Craig, Larry and Melissa – I love you guys. Thanks for having my back!
